Fort Frances Lakers ink four

June 8 -- As the Superior International Junior Hockey League gears up for its 10th anniversary season the Fort Frances Lakers have been busy in the off-season signing players for the upcoming campaign.

Fort Frances has inked four skaters including a trio of forwards along with a defenceman heading into the start of training camp in just over two months time.

Joining Laker's rookie of the year award recipient Byron Katapaytuk are fellow forwards Brett Wur and Ryan Wildman along with defenceman Rylan McKinnon.

Katapaytuk, who hails from Moose Factory, Ont., had 34 points in 43 games this past season on 13 goals and 21 assists.

As for Wur, 18, he joins the club after helping the Selkirk Fishermen capture the Manitoba Keystone Junior B Hockey League title in the spring. He hails from St. Andrews. Man., and picked up 43 points.

The third forward signed is Wildman who is a 17-year-old left winger who skated for the Timmins Majors AAA midget squad in 2009-10. He netted 16 goals and chipped in with 19 helpers in 31 contests.

Joining the Lakers defensive corps is McKinnon who played for the Cypress Cyclones of the Prairie Junior B Hockey League of Saskatchewan last season where he finished fourth in team scoring notching five goals and chipping in with 17 assists in 28 games. The 19-year-old D-man also had 75 penalty minutes.

The Lakers are expected to open training camp on Aug. 25.
