Wolverines, Kings battle to 3-3 draw

Oct. 29--Nathan Spina's third goal of the game with just over seven minutes remaining lifted the K&A Wolverines into a 3-3 tie with the Mitsubishi Motors Kings Wednesday in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League action at Fort William First Nation Arena.

Following a scoreless first period the Kings Matt Kaarela beat K&A starter Jordan George just eight seconds into the second period for the game's opening goal.

Spina tied the contest five minutes into the middle stanza and then added the other marker in the frame with 6:17 left to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Todd Skirving tallied unassisted for the AAA major midgets at 2:39 of the third to tie things up while Sam Dubinsky put the Kings up midway through the period.

The Wolverines forced the tie striking on the power play at 13:50 as Spina, a former member of the Kings, completed the hat trick.

Colin Dzijacky made 32 saves in net for Kings while George faced 27 shots in the K&A goal.

League play continues Thursday when the Northern Hawks host the Nipigon Elks in a 7:30 p.m. start at the Tournament Centre.
