Elks upend Hawks 4-1

Oct. 10--A 40-save effort by Thomas Gratz backstopped the Nip-Rock Elks to a 4-1 victory over the Northern Hawks in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League action Friday night at Nipigon Arena.

Chet Blanchette put the home side up early in this one striking just over a minute into the contest for the only goal of the opening period.

Ryan Powell would knot the score at a goal apiece at 8:26 of the second period only to see Shay Copp restore the Nip-Rock lead with a power play tally just 1:22 later making it 2-1 after 40 minutes.
