League preseason tourney underway Thursday

Oct. 1 --The Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League annual preseason tournament for the Joe Ward memorial trophy gets underway Thursday and will run throughout the weekend at the Tournament Centre.

All five of the league's member clubs will be competing in the four-day event, which concludes Sunday at 3 p.m. with the championship game.

Action kicks off Thursday at 6 p.m. when the Thunder Bay Kings AAA major midget squad takes on the Nip-Rock Elks Jr. B side.

That will be followed by the defending tournament and league champion K&A Wolverines meeting the Northern Hawks in an 8:30 p.m. start.

The Superior Eagles AAA midgets from Marathon will see their first game of the tourney Friday vs. the Wolverines at 11:30 a.m.

Round robin play concludes Saturday evening while the semifinals go Sunday morning followed by the title game that afternoon.
