Wolverines win away from Jr. B title

March 29--The K&A Wolverines scored the game's final three goals Saturday en route to a 6-5, come from behind, victory over the Northern Hawks in game five of the Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League finals played at the Tournament Centre.

The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on a shorthanded effort by Curtis Sandberg and one at even strength by Stefano Lento.

K&A would bounce back to tie it before the first frame was out on markers by Justin Backor and and Ryan Krasnichuk.

Krasnichuk's second of the night, on the power play, at 12:04 gave the Wolverines their first lead, but Stefano's second tally of the game coming with his side down a man and a marker in the last minute by Andrew Timko gave the Hawks a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes.

The Hawks did miss on a penalty shot with 2:36 remaining in the period or their lead could have been increased further.

Ryan McInerney then scored for the Hawks 51 seconds into the third period, which spelled the end of the night for K&A starter Kelly Heikkila who gave way to Jason Jaundoo.

The move seemed to spark the Wolverines as Krasnichuk completed his hat trick just 15 seconds after the goalie change.

Adrian Cordes would then tie it at 6:31 on the power play while Nico Anderson buried the game-winner with just 7:23 to go getting one past Hawks netminder Kirk Bodnar.

With the win the Wolverines now lead the 8-point final 6-4 and can wrap up the crown with a victory in game six, which goes Sunday at 6 p.m. back at the Tournament Centre.
