Late goal helps Hawks even Jr. B final

March 27--Kris Hardy's power play goal with 1:26 remaining was the difference as the Northern Hawks bounced back for a 5-4 win over the K&A Wolverines Thursday evening in game four of the Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League championship series played at the Tournament Centre.

Curtis Sandberg put the Hawks on top early in this one striking with the man advantage 1:08 into the contest while Hardy made it 2-0 two and half minutes later with his first of the night.

The Wolverines would bounce back with two goals of their own before the first period was out on tallies by David Renzi and Ben Soramaki.

Ryan Beese gave the Hawks the lead once again midway through the middle stanza, but a power play effort by Sean Spenrath and a marker by Adrian Cordes with just 28 seconds left in the frame gave K&A a 4-3 cushion after 40 minutes.

The score would stay that way until just over three minutes left when Beese potted his second of the game during a Hawks man advantage setting the stage for Hardy's heroics in the waning moments of the contest.

Kirk Bodnar made 35 saves to pick up the win in goal for the Northern Hawks while Kelly Heikkila was saddled with the loss facing 33 shots in a losing cause.

The 8-point final is now tied up at 4-4 with game five set for 9 p.m. on Saturday night back at the Tournament Centre. Game six meanwhile is slated for 6 p.m. on Sunday also at the T.C.
