Wolverines take lead in Jr. B final

March 25--The K&A Wolverines have taken the lead in the Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League championship series doubling the Northern Hawks 6-3 in game three Tuesday evening at the Tournament Centre.

Kevin Connelly got K&A out of the gate quickly beating Hawks starter Kirk Bodnar just 14 seconds into the contest.

Ryan McInerney tied it up at 1-1 a minute later, but Adrian Cordes added a power play marker at 3:45 to put the Wolverines back on top.

The goal parade continued at 5:40 with Curtis Sandberg striking for the Hawks to level the score once again.

Steve Raynak and Sean Spenrath added tallies for K&A before the game was 10 minutes old putting them on top 4-2 after the first period.

Andrew Timko of the Hawks had a man advantage marker six minutes into the middle stanza to narrow the deficit to one, but Connelly's second of the night five minutes later made the score 5-3 after 40 minutes.

Curtis Dowswell added the final goal of the night before the five-minute mark of the final frame with the game's last marker.

Kelly Heikkila made 26 saves to pick up the win in net for K&A while Bodnar suffered the loss facing 19 shots before giving way to Cody Pelletier in the second period. He saw 13 shots fired in his direction.

The Wolverines now lead the 8-point final 4-2 with game four slated for Thursday evening back at the Tournament Centre. The action gets underway there at 9 p.m.
