Eagles blast Flames for second straight night

March 8--The Superior Eagles blasted the North End Flames for a second straight night rolling to a 13-1 victory Saturday in the Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League play at Marathon Arena.

The Eagles built up a 6-0 lead after one period and never looked back in the rout.

Cam Gross with two, Jordan Carne, Steve McParland, Giiweden Kakegabon and Dallas Allaire had the first period markers while Carne and Curtis Atkinson added second period tallies to make it 8-0 before North End's Taylor MacKenzie snapped Tom Gratz's shutout bid with a shorthanded effort at 19:46 of the middle stanza.

The Eagles poured it on with five more goals in the third period as Carne and Gross completed their hat tricks while McParland, Morgan Jerome and Kyle Bruekelman added singles. Bruekelman also dished out four assists for a five-point night.

Eagles captain and league-leading scorer Ben Gamache had another huge night offensively setting up nine of the goals for his second consecutive nine-point game.

Gratz made 15 saves to pick up the win in net while the home town Eagles peppered Flames goalkeeper Matt Morin with 58 shots.

The two teams will wrap-up regular season play in the league tomorrow afternoon back in Marathon. Game time is 2 p.m.
