Wolverines, Eagles post Friday night wins

March 7--The K&A Wolverines and Superior Eagles both posted wins Friday evening in the Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League with the Wolverines doubling up the Nipigon Elks 10-5 and the Eagles blasting the North End Flames 13-2.

The contest that got underway first saw Stephen Raynak, Brent Winkworth and James Kane all score twice in K&A's win over the Elks in Nipigon.

Sean Spenrath, David Renzi, Ben Soramaki and Josh Sigurdson also tallied in the victory for the Wolverines who completed their regular season with a league-best 24-1-5 record.

Kelly Heikkila and Jason Jaundoo split duties between the pipes for K&A with Heikkila turning aside 15 of 18 shots fired his way while Jaundoo allowed two goals on 12 shots.

Brent Harris, Chris Fogg, Travis Komar, Mike Jackovic and Alex Jeffery had the Nipigon markers in a game that saw their netminder, Cody Junttola, face 52 shots.

Meanwhile up the Trans Canada Highway in Marathon, Ben Gamache and Jordan Carne had big nights for the hometown Eagles in the rout of North End.

Gamache racked up nine points on a goal and eight assists in the one-sided contest while Carne scored five times.

The huge night for Gamache gives the captain of the AAA midget side the league regular season scoring crown, with two games still yet to play as no one else in the top 10 will see any game action before the schedule concludes on Sunday.

Curtis Atkinson, with a pair, Cam Gross, Jaret LeClair, Steven McParland, Dallas Allaire and Greg Trichilo were the other Eagles' marksmen in the game with Mike Trichilo earning the win in net making 13 saves.

Adam Zupan and Kameron Kuzyk replied for the Flames, which was no match for the 13 goals and 75 shots pumped on North End goalkeeper Mac Potter.

The Eagles will host the Flames once again back in Marathon on Saturday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
