Hawks and Eagles battle to 4-4 draw

Feb. 16--A Ben Gamache goal with 7:17 remaining lifted the Superior Eagles into a 4-4 tie with the Northern Hawks in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League action Saturday evening at Marathon Arena.

Each side scored twice in the opening period as Curtis Sandberg and Rory Romano beat Eagles goaltender Mike Trichilo while Steve McParland and Cam Gross both tallied on the power play against Hawks starter Kirk Bodnar.

Gavin MacVicar put the Hawks up a goal three minutes into the middle stanza only to see Greg Trichilo strike with the man advantage midway through the frame.

MacVicar then buried his second of the period at 13:30 giving the Hawks the lead until Gamache tied it in the third period.

The Hawks out shot the Eagles 37-32 in the contest.

The same two teams will wrap up their weekend series back in Marathon on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 2 p.m.

Elsewhere in league play Sunday the North End Flames will host the Nipigon Elks at Delaney Arena. Action gets underway at 8 p.m.
