Hawks take first of three vs. Eagles

Feb. 15--Ryan Beese had a three-goal performance to help lead the Northern Hawks to a 6-4 win over the Superior Eagles Friday night in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League play at Marathon Arena.

Beese opened the scoring, on the power play, 3:45 into the contest while Stefano Lento added another for the Hawks just 13 seconds later to make it 2-0.

Steve McParland cut the deficit in half in the late stages of the first period beating Hawks starter Kirk Bodnar with just 23 seconds remaining in the frame.

McParland would then set-up Giiweden Kakegabon with the equalizer four minutes into the middle stanza with the first of three man advantage markers for the Eagles.

Beese buried his second of the night past Eagles netminder Thomas Gratz midway through the second period to put the visiting Hawks up for good while Brian Sippila added a pair of markers in quick succession later on in the period making it 5-2 after 40 minutes.

The Eagles Ben Gamache would strike on the power play at 7:37 of the third period to bring his side closer only to see Beese complete the hat-trick with under eight minutes remaining.

Devon Weller added a man advantage tally in the waning moments of the game to round out the scoring on the night.

Mario Fogliomeni and Andrew Timko would dish out three assists apiece to help the Hawks out offensively.

The same two sides will meet again Saturday evening back in Marathon in the second of the three-game weekend set. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
