Surging Hawks humble Nipigon

Feb. 5--The surging Northern Hawks continue to roll in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League play as they humbled the Nipigon Elks 10-1 Tuesday evening at the Tournament Centre.

Michael Vis paced the Northern Hawks attack scoring four times and adding an assist in the victory.

Rory Romano, Stefano Lento, Mark Menei, Jerry Franseze, Mario Figliomeni and Ryan Beese had the other markers in the win for the Hawks who held intermission leads of 3-0 and 7-0. Curtis Sandberg dished out four assists to help the cause offensively.

Cody Pelletier only had to make 13 saves in picking up the win in goal improving his record to 6-0-1.

Ryan Smith had the lone goal for Nipigon while Davis Buchanan saw plenty of rubber in this one as the Hawks fired 71 shots on net.

With the win, their sixth in succession, the Hawks record improves to 15-4-3 on the campaign while Nipigon dipped to 3-20-1.

Next up on the league schedule sees the second place Hawks take on the first place K&A Wolverines Feb. 12 back at the Tournament Centre. Game time is 8 p.m.
