Hawks rout Elks

Jan. 22--The Northern Hawks scored six first period goals and never looked back in a 12-3 rout of the Nipigon Elks Tuesday in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League action at the Tournament Centre.

Jerry Franzese scored four goals in the win for the Hawks while Curtis Sandberg added a hat trick.

Ryan Beese also scored twice in the victory while Michael Vis, Mark Menei and Basil Goodchild added singles. Goodchild also chipped in with five assists for a six-point night.

Evan Stewart had two goals in a losing cause for Nipigon add Terrance Hakli had the other.

Kirk Bodnar made 18 saves to record the win in net for the Hawks while Cody Junttola suffered the loss for Nipigon facing 63 shots.

Nipigon returns to game action Thursday as they meet the first place K&A Wolverines back at the Tournament Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
