Fortier's five-point night leads Wolverines over Hawks

Dec. 13--Corey Fortier scored four times and added an assist leading the K&A Wolverines to a 7-3 victory over the Northern Hawks Thursday evening in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League action at the Tournament Centre.

It was Rory Romano of the Hawks who potted the only goal of the opening 20 minutes with just over five minutes remaining.

The Wolverines then erupted for five unanswered goals in the second period jumping out to a commanding lead after 40 minutes.

Justin Backor tied it 1:33 into the middle stanza before Fortier buried a natural hat-trick in a span of three minutes and 12 seconds in the later half of the frame. Backor then added his second of the period to cap the offensive outburst.

Fortier then struck on the power play 47 seconds into the third period making it 6-1.

Stefano Lento scored less than a minute after that to cut the deficit to four goals only to see Sean Spenrath put the game out of reach at 6:21 of the final stanza. Spenrath also assisted on all three of Fortier's markers in the middle stanza for a four-point night.

Paul Drombolis wrapped up the scoring with four minutes left beating K&A netminder Kelly Heikkila who faced 20 shots in earning the win in goal.

Kirk Bodnar started in net for the Hawks as he suffered the loss before giving way to Cody Pelletier in the second period.
