Hawks & Wolverines battle to draw

Nov. 29--The Northern Hawks and K&A Wolverines combined to score five power play goals as the two sides battled to a 3-3 draw Thursday evening in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League action at the Tournament Centre.

Mario Figliomeni opened the scoring with the only non man advantage marker of the night five minutes into the contest.

Brian Glavish tied things up three minutes later to round out the scoring in the opening 20 minutes.

Following a scoreless second period, Justin Backor and Larry Johanson notched pwer play tallies 51 seconds after in the final stanza to give K&A a 3-1 lead.

Curtis Sandberg however struck for a pair of quick extra man goals of his own at 11:43 and 12:25 with Ryan McInerney setting up both markers to wrap up the scoring on the night.

Kirk Bodnar made 25 saves in the Hawks net while Kelly Heikkila faced 23 shots between the pipes for the Wolverines.

With the tie K&A remains unbeaten and in first place in the five-team loop with a 10-0-4 mark while the second place Hawks are now 8-2-3 on the campaign.

League play resumes Friday evening as the Superior Eagles travel from Marathon to Nipigon for a 7:30 p.m. start against the home town Elks. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
