Oct. 16--The Northern Hawks scored three shorthanded goals en route to stopping the Nipigon Elks 9-3 Tuesday evening in Thunder Bay Jr. B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League play at the Tournament Centre.
Brian Sippila with two and Ryan Beese had the shorthanded tallies for the Hawks in the win.
Mario Figliomeni had four points on the night with a pair of goals and two assists to lead all point producers on the night.
Stefano Lento, Ran McInerney, Curtis Sandberg and Lukas Olson had the other markers for the Hawks.
Mitch Joyce, Chris Cornelius and Mike Ray replied for Nipigon.
Kirk Bodnar faced 27 shots in picking up the victory in goal while Cody Junttola suffered the loss seeing 36 shots fired in his direction.
League play continues Friday as the Superior Eagles make the trip from Marathon to Nipigon for a 7:30 p.m. start against the Elks at Nipigon Arena.
